The focus of his excitement this year is on the ice dance drama "Viva la Vida," which will evoke the life and paintings of Frida Kahlo through a Day of the Dead ceremony, from the ancient Mexican holiday celebrating the dead. "We also have the puppets and some great scenic elements to represent the trolley crash that crippled Kahlo, and some interesting ways to reproduce her paintings," Carson said. So, as producer of the Winter Lights Festival, he has postponed the show for a week and rearranged events to all happen on the same day, Feb. Carson and Beth Woronoff created the piece, which will be performed by the Boundless Edge Ice Dance Ensemble, which Woronoff founded. To evoke Kahlo's somewhat calamitous life, Carson and Woronoff have enlisted a former Olympic skater, Line Haddad, who, at 13, was the youngest Olympic pair skater, in 1992.

Then I tried shows with little to no violence and lots of talking that I liked to watch like Murder She Wrote, cooking shows, or Masterpiece Theater, these sometimes worked for about 5 minutes but then the gig was up and Teddy was back to turning... The best part about all of this is that I had to really work hard to get the hyper little boy to sit down and watch it. First I tried kids shows that I used to enjoy as a youngster. His eyes quickly glazed over and he sat down on the couch to watch 20 -Teddy was having none of it and would often even go and turn the TV off. It was like  little Teddy crack (I recently found out that suckers are too, who knew. Great parenting for the win....

Mamiwata is an African name for a spirit believed to be embodied by the manatee. This blog chronicles my search for the elusive West African manatee, and my exploration to understand its biology, habitat and preservation needs, economic and cultural significance. As I mentioned in my last post, Aristide Kamla from Cameroon came to Florida for 3 weeks of training this past November. So little is known about this animal, yet it is intensely hunted almost everywhere it exists and may already be gone from much of its previous range....
